EFFECT OF GERMINATION TEMPERATURE AND STORAGE TIME ON DORMANCY AND ON THE GERMINATION TIME OF CEREAL SEEDS.

INFLUENCE DE LA TEMPERATURE DE GERMINATION ET DE LA DUREE DU STOCKAGE SUR LA DORMANCE ET LA DUREE DE GERMINATION DES SEMENCES DE CEREALES.

Summary

THE A. DESCRIBES THE TEST PROCEDURE AND GIVES THE RESULTS OBTAINED AT 281, 288, 295 AND 302 K (8, 15, 22 AND 29 DEG C) FOR DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF OATS, WHEAT AND BARLEY. THERE IS A TEMPERATURE LEVEL ABOVE WHICH THE GRAIN DOES NOT GERMINATE WITHIN A FEW WEEKS AFTER HARVESTING. FOR BARLEY, ALL GRAINS FINALLY GERMINATE AT 295 K AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS, BUT NOT AT 281 K. THERE ARE DIFFERENCES IN DORMANCY ACCORDING TO SPECIES, VARIETIES, LOTS AND GRAINS OF A SAME LOT. THE STAGE AT THE BEGINNING OF GERMINATION IS SENSITIVE TO TEMPERATURE. AFTER THIS STAGE, GERMINATION CAN CONTINUE AT A HIGH TEMPERATURE. A.G.
