Summary

Since the 80’s, the thermodynamics appraisal of energy systems has been reconsidered. It concerns both direct of reverse cycle systems (refrigerating machines, heat pumps). The paper is devoted to a review of concepts available to characterize energy efficiency of machines and systems in the environment. The classical criterion (COP) is compared with regard to second low efficiency and exergetic efficiency, mainly. An optimization case study is presented. Consequences of this optimization are enlightened and commented. Lastly it is shown that if energy efficiency of machines is relatively well covered, the appraisal of the environment criterions is not so developed. Some actual proposals in this direction are presented.
