Energy saving and variable-speed refrigerating compressors.

Gains énergétiques et vitesse variable des compresseurs frigorifiques.

Author(s) : BENAMER A., CLODIC D.

Summary

The use of variable speed is being extended to fans and pumps. For refrigerating or air-conditioning compressors, associated overcost is high and the evaluation of energy savings yielded by variable speed compressor is not easy. The paper presents the design of the test bench developed at the Center for Energy Studies of Ecole des Mines de Paris, with the financial support of ADEME (French Agency for Environment and Energy Management). The paper details the comparison method between refrigeration systems equipped with variable speed and fixed speed; it gives also the first comparative results of scroll compressors with variable speed and fixed speed.
