Summary
This paper presents the experimental investigation on the performance of a low temperature waste heat driven advanced desiccant dehumidifier (ADD) which has almost no moving parts. Type RD silica gel is selected as the adsorbent material for the innovative ADD. The advantages of the current dehumidifier are: i) no major moving parts rendering no maintenance; and ii) energy saving through dehumidification. The performance of the dehumidifier is investigated at different relative humidity and air flow rates. The optimal contact time of the air with the adsorbent that gives the highest performance has been experimentally evaluated. Finally, the energy saving by the advanced dehumidifier is analyzed and is found to be around 25~30%.
