Summary

Current problems are discussed, on the basis of developments in superconducting fault current limiters. For high-critical-temperature superconducting limiters, heat flux from a thin-film device at quench is compared with the low-critical-temperature superconducting limiter. On the basis of the results, it is proposed that the bulk high-critical-temperature superconducting limiting device would be feasible if the critical current for bulk high critical temperature superconducting were improved to 1,000 A/mm2.
