Summary

This paper utilizes scientific concepts to promote sustainable living in Jordan as a lifestyle choice, where people are able to minimize the use of Earth’s non-renewable resources. An energy-efficient house is designed to be a zero energy and zero carbon emission house, where energy is generated through renewable resources, the house grantees a high quality of life with fresh clean air supply, a consistent internal temperature, a more open space with under floor heating and a huge reduction of running cost. The house design includes optimum orientation, landscape, building envelope, heating, and cooling systems, in which passive and active concepts are taken into consideration. The total electricity demand was estimated by simulation to be about 7.7MWh, the electricity is generated by Solar and Wind hybrid on-grid system, the design also includes water management system that reduces the water usage up to 50% than the average. The design is consistent with the Codes and Standards of Green Buildings manual in Jordan.
