Summary
Automatic control of air-handling units (AHU) needs models of its elements that describe the dependence of the temperature and humidity as a function of the element command. This paper demonstrates that if the output variables of the models of the electric coils, fluid-filled coils and steam humidifiers are the differences between outlet and inlet, their models may be written as the product of a nonlinear static gain and a linear transfer function. Their discrete equivalent is used for parameter identification. Since the dynamics of the elements and of their sensors are very similar, the parameter identification of the elements takes into account the model of the sensor, previously identified. This grey-box approach combines theoretical modelling, parameter identification of ARX models, and parameter identification of partially known models by using optimization techniques.
