Summary

The following conclusions were obtained: 1) A surface with isolated cavities enhances the nucleate boiling heat transfer when it has an increasing depth of cavities. This type of surface has an effectiveness as a surface with reentrant cavities; 2) Regarding the distribution density of isolated cavities, the presence of at least one pot-shaped cavity within the area of a single detached bubble clearly enhances nucleate boiling; 3) The effect of non-wettability on the enhancement of nucleate boiling heat transfer is significant, independent of the characteristics of the surface cavities.
