Summary
The physics of elementary particles require higher and higher energies, which can be controlled only by means of superconducting components, which require, themselves, ever larger acceleration units. The cooling of these components require ever more efficient helium refrigerating plants. In the paper a review is given of the actual technical level of such plants.
