Summary

THE NON-INVASIVE OPTICAL METHOD OF HOLOGRAPHIC INTERFEROMETRY IS APPLIED TO THE PROBLEM OF HEAT TRANSFER IN TURBULENT FLOW OVER SQUARE AND ROUNDED RIB-ROUGHNESS ELEMENTS. BESIDES GIVING TWO-DIMENSIONAL FLUID ISOTHERMS, IT IS DEMONSTRATED THAT TH EF THESE DATA ARE COMPARED WITH THOSE FROM ALTERNATIVE EXPERIMENTAL METHODS. WHILE THE GEOMETRY SPECIFICALLY SIMULATES THAT ON THE ADVANCED GAS COOLED REACTOR FUEL ELEMENTS, THE RESULTS ARE OF GENERAL INTEREST, SINCE THE RIB PITCH TO HEIGHT RATIO IS 7.2:1.
