Summary

IN ORDER TO OPTIMALLY DESIGN AND CONTROL AN AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM, A PHILOSOPHY BASED ON ENERGY CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY SHOULD BE APPLIED. ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY SHOULD BE PRESCRIBED BY AN INDEX THAT COMBINES THERMAL FACTORS WITH NONTHERMAL FACTORS. THE PAPER AIMS TO VERIFY THE HUE-HEAT HYPOTHESIS AND ITS SIGNIFICANT FACTORS. AFTER 3 SERIES OF EXPERIMENTS, IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE HUE-HEAT IMPRESSION WAS PARTLY SUPPORTED AND THAT INTERACTIONS BETWEEN COLOUR AND THERMAL SENSATIONS WERE OBSERVED IN THE TRANSIENT CONDITION OF RISING TEMPERATURE EXPERIENCED IN WINTER. IN ADDITION TO THE THERMAL SENSATION, THE SKIN TEMPERATURE, THE COMFORT FEELING, THE HUE-HEAT FEELING, AND THE VISUAL COMFORT OF COLOUR WERE STATISTICALLY EXAMINED.
