Summary

The article describes the performance of a hybrid earth air-duct system used to provide comfort conditions in a college auditorium in India. The system consists of 80 cm diameter pipes buried in the earth to a depth of 2 m. The evaporative cooling system provides a cooling capacity of nearly 40 kW with a coefficient of performance ranging from 3.4 to 4.3. This article provides useful data on the thermo-physical properties and decrement factors of different soil types.
