Summary

THE PAPER IS AIMED AT THE FUNDAMENTAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE IMPACT FAILURE MECHANISM OF THE VALVE PLATE. THE ANALYTICAL SOLUTION OF THE DISPLACEMENTS OF THE HALF-SPACE DUE TO A POINT IMPACT LOAD AS A GREEN'S FUNCTION IS DERIVED. THE NUMERICAL SOLUTION OF THE DISPLACEMENTS AND STRESSES IN A PLATE DUE TO THE AXISYMMETRIC IMPACT PRESSURE ARE OBTAINED AFTER APPLYING THE SPECIAL CONVOLUTION AND SUPERPOSITION ALGORITHM DEVELOPED BY USING THE HALF-SPACE SOLUTION. THE WAVE EFFECT ON THE MATERIAL FAILURE IS CLEARLY DEMONSTRATED.
