Summary

THE AUTHORS HAVE NOTICED THAT CURRENT REGULATIONS ON FIRE PREVENTION HAVE BEEN CONCEIVED SO AS TO RELATE LEVELS OF SAFETY TO EACH GIVEN SITUATION, AND NOT AS A SIMPLE TARGET WITH FIXED REFERENCE PARAMETERS. THEY HAVE EXAMINED THE PROPAGATION CHARACTERISTICS OF A FIRE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE STRUCTURE. THE AUTHORS, HAVING FOUND THAT THE HUMAN EFFICIENCY FACTOR IS THE MAIN REFERENCE PARAMETER FOR THE DESIGN OF A SAFETY SYSTEM, HAVE INVESTIGATED THE POSSIBLE WAYS OF OPERATING AIR CONDITIONING INSTALLATIONS AND SMOKE DETECTION SYSTEMS TO ACHIEVE CORRECT SAFETY MANAGEMENT IN BUILDINGS.
