JUMP-LIKE CREEP IN ZIRCONIUM AT HELIUM TEMPERATURES.

Type of article: Article

Summary

UNLIKE THE OTHER METALS STUDIED, THE STRESS DEPENDENCE ON DEFORMATION AND CREEP RATE OF ZIRCONIUM IS NONMONOTONIC. AT STRESSES OVER 25 KG/MM2 ONE CAN OBSERVE DEFORMATION JUMPS THAT CAN OCCUR AT ANY MOMENT OF THE SAMPLE CREEP PROCESS. BASED ON THE DATA OBTAINED, ONE CAN SUGGEST THAT DISCONTINUOUS DEFORMATION AND CREEP CEASING IN ZIRCONIUM ARE DUE TO THE MASS TWINNING INITIATED BY LARGE CLUSTERS OF DISLOCATIONS AHEAD OF OBSTACLES.
