A CONSULTING ENGINEER HAS ANALYSED A NUMBER OF LITIGATION CASES IN WHICH HE HAS APPEARED AS EXPERT WITNESS. HE TABULATES AND DISCUSSES THE TYPE OF CLAIM, THE INCIDENT LEADING TO IT, THE COMPONENTS AND FAULTS INVOLVED. MOST OF THE CASES ARISE FROM DESIGN FAULTS IN FREEZING SYSTEMS AND INCLUDE SUCH OBVIOUS ANCILLARY FACTORS AS NEGLIGENCE BY OPERATOR, CONTRACTOR AND SYSTEM DESIGNER, OFTEN THROUGH IGNORANCE. D.W.H.
