Summary

LOSSES AND MAGNETIZATION CURVES OF SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS WERE MEASURED BY RECORDING DIGITIZED CURRENT AND VOLTAGE VALUES FOLLOWED BY NUMERICAL INTEGRATION OF THE INSTANTANEOUS POWER. ERRORS ARISING FROM THE LIMITED PRECISION AND RESOLUTION OF THE VOLTMETER AS WELL AS THOSE INTRODUCED BY NUMERICAL PROCEDURES ARE THOROUGHLY DISCUSSED. THE METHOD IS SUITABLE FOR ENERGIZING CYCLES WITH LOW RAMP RATES AND HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY TESTED IN SEVERAL EXPERIMENTS.
