Low temperature, high-performance Gifford-McMahon refrigerator.
Author(s) : RIEDY R. C.
Type of article: Article
Summary
Cryogenic refrigeration systems based on the Gifford-McMahon cycle are generally limited to temperatures above 8 K and have little or no capacity below 10 K. The paper covers the design and test results of a low temperature, high-performance Gifford-McMahon refrigerator using conventional materials and technology. The refrigerator is capable of achieving temperatures below 6.5 K and a capacity of 5 watts at 10 K.
