THE AUTHORS START BY ILLUSTRATING THE USUAL METHOD FOR CALCULATING HEAT LOSS ON THE BASIS OF AN EVENLY DISTRIBUTED, CONSTANT INTERNAL AIR TEMPERATURE AND IGNORING THE EFFECT OF HEATING SYSTEM OUTLETS IN THE VICINITY OF WINDOWS. THEY GO ON TO DISCUSS RADIANT EFFECTS ON HUMAN COMFORT AND THE IMPORTANCE OF CONSIDERING MEAN RADIANT TEMPERATURE WITHIN A BUILDING. IN PARTICULAR THEY STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF REDUCING THE COOLING EFFECT OF WINDOW SURFACES BY THE USE OF EFFECTIVE PORTABLE INSULATION. D.W.H.
