Summary

THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY IS TO ASCERTAIN WHETHER FACTORS INFLUENCE THE VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CONTROL OF BODY ODOUR IN SPACES WITH HIGH LEVELS OF OCCUPANCY (AUDITORIA, THEATRES, CLASSROOMS) WHERE SMOKING IS PROHIBITED. MORE THAN 700 PERSONS SERVED AS OCCUPANTS DURING 40 EXPERIMENTS WITH NO MECHANICAL VENTILATION AND WITH MECHANICAL VENTILATION. SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN EVALUATION OF THE INTENSITY AND ACCEPTANCE OF BODY ODOUR WAS OBSERVED BETWEEN DANISH AND YUGOSLAVIAN SUBJECTS. A VENTILATION RATE AROUND 4 L/S PERSON IS REQUIRED TO SATISFY 80% OF PEOPLE ENTERING A SPACE.
