Summary

By analysing the different types of scientific and technological research in the air conditioning sector and by explaining what happens in the United States, the author (supported by the action of ASHRAE) briefly reviews the most important university research programmes currently financed in Italy. He particularly accentuates the question of relations between universities and the industrial sector in Italy. Finally, aware of the need for a change of direction, the author sees AICARR as the promoter of a new effective research policy aimed at meeting the industry's requirements.
