NUMERICAL MODELLING AND COMPUTATION OF NATURAL CONVECTION IN BUILDING ENCLOSURES.

Author(s) : HANJALIC K., VASIC S.

Summary

A PARTICULAR SUCCESS HAS BEEN CLAIMED BY SINGLE-POINT TWO-OR MULTIPLE-EQUATIONS TURBULENCE CLOSURE MODELS WHICH (IN CONJUNCTION WITH ADEQUATE NUMERICAL METHODS) ENABLE PREDICTIONS OF ALL IMPORTANT FLOW DETAILS AS WELL AS ALL RELEVANT ENGINEERING PARAMETERS IN COMPLEX GEOMETRIES AND WITH ARBITRARY BOUNDARY CONDITIONS WITH HIGHER ACCURACY THAN ANY OTHER ANALYTICAL OR EMPIRICAL METHOD. THE PAPER REVIEWS THE MERITS AND SHORTCOMINGS OF SOME CURRENTLY USED MODELLING PRACTICES AND ILLUSTRATES THEIR APPLICABILITY TO THE COMPUTATION OF NATURAL CONVECTION FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER IN ENCLOSURE AS ENCOUNTERED IN BUILDINGS INTERIORS.
