Summary
Based on an irreversible model of a regenerative Brayton refrigeration cycle, expressions for several important performance parameters such as the cooling load, COP, and power input, and the optimal relation between the cooling rate and the COP were derived. The influence of regeneration and several irreversibilities on the optimal performance of the cycle was investigated. The optimal operating region and the performance bounds of the cycle were discussed. The optimal heat transfer areas were determined. The influences of the design parameters on the cooling load, COP, and power input of the cycle were studied using numerical calculations.
