Type of article: Article
Summary
A test for performance improvement of a Solvay cryocooler was worked out. The lowest cooling temperature of 4.2 K of the second stage of the machine (instead of 11.5 K) was obtained by using erbium(3)-nickel to replace the traditional regenerative material lead. The test device and the measuring technique are described, and the working conditions for the cryocooler are also discussed.
