Summary

This paper deal with the performance evaluation of desiccant grain dryer integrated with solar system. Propose design consist of desiccant wheel, solar air heater and dryer bin with the capacity of 10,000 kg grain.Total drying time and energy requried to bring the moisture from 26% m.c(db) to 14% m.c (db) was calculated and compared with conventional hot air dryer. Results indicated that in case of desiccant drying system observed efficiency were 41.5%, 39% and 39% where as conventional dryer had 36%, 34% and 33% at different drying temperature 50oC, 55oC and 60oC respectively.System was also evaluated for seed drying at 44oC and energy efficiency found was 44.6% as compared to 40.5% in case of conventional dryer hence anticipated that desiccant grain dryer provide more sustainable drying solution.
