Summary

PTC (POSITIVE TEMPERATURE COEFFICIENT) THERMISTORS ARE CERAMIC SEMICONDUCTOR BARIUM TITANATE BASED COMPONENTS APPLIED FOR SWITCHING ON SINGLE PHASE REFRIGERATOR COMPRESSORS BY MEANS OF AN AUXILIARY PHASE. INCREASED RESISTANCE DUE TO HEATING BY THE CURRENT IS USED FOR SWITCHING OFF THE STARTING PHASE AND SLOW DECREASE OF RESISTANCE AFTER COOLING DOWN OF THE THERMISTOR SERVES FOR DELAYED STARTING. TIME CHARACTERISTICS OF WARMING UP AND COOLING DOWN MUST CORRESPOND TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE COMPRESSOR MOTOR SWITCHING CYCLE. SWITCHING OFF CHARACTERISTICS OF PTC THERMISTORS ARE ANALYSED IN DETAIL.
