HEATING COSTS CAN BE CONSIDERABLY REDUCED IN APPLICATIONS WHERE AIR FLOW SYSTEMS ARE REQUIRED TO EXHAUST VITIATED AIR TO WASTE AND COOLING COSTS CAN ALSO BE LOWERED IN SYSTEMS USING OUTSIDE MAKE-UP AIR SINCE THE HEAT-PIPE CAN TRANSFER HEAT IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE FIRST ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE PRINCIPLE, PHYSICAL CONSTRUCTION AND FUNCTION OF Q-PIPES AND ILLUSTRATES SYSTEMS WHERE TRU'S CAN BE APPLIED. THE FOLLOW-ON ARTICLE IN THIS STUDY DEALS WITH INDUSTRIAL HEATING, VENTILATING, AND AIR CONDITIONING APPLICATIONS OF TRU UNITS, INCLUDING AN ANALYSIS OF ENERGY AND COST SAVINGS.
