Recycling of lithium bromide solutions from absorption refrigeration plants.

Number: 0131

Author(s) : FEJA S., KRAHL F., PALITZSCH W., RÖVER I., JANSEN S.

Summary

Within a public funded project, processes for the regeneration of used lithium bromide solutions (LiBraq) were developed. The project initiates circular economy of lithium from absorption solutions and thus contributes to resource efficiency.
It will be shown that concentrated salt solutions (originally to be disposed), containing corrosion inhibitors and corrosion products, can be converted into a regenerated stock solution. A batch process has been developed which generates a saleable new lithium bromide solution from waste solution that meets the required specifications of plant manufacturers. Results of the purification of lithium bromide solutions containing molybdate will be presented and the suitability of treated solutions for reuse in new absorption refrigeration plants will be evaluated.
