Summary

Room temperature magnetic refrigeration is a new refrigeration technology, which is highly efficient and environmentally safe. It shows great promise in terms of application and seems to be a substitute for traditional vapour compression technology. In this article, the theory of magnetocaloric effect is illustrated. The development of the magnetic material, magnetic refrigeration cycles, the regenerator and the typical magnetic refrigerator are introduced. Finally, the article presents future perspectives of room temperature magnetic refrigeration.
