Summary

The oxygen content in YBCO(-) superconductors has been varied between O(6) and O(7) and the resulting effects on superconducting and electroluminescence properties have been reported. The oxygen content has been found to affect both the critical-temperature values and the EL output. The EL is seen to increase with oxygen deficiency. This reveals that the host lattice defects (oxygen vacancies) are acting as the luminescence centres.
