Summary

Composite reaction texturing (CRT) process of Bi-2212 is developed for production of high current elements. CRT is a partial melting process that depends on multi-seeding with aligned high aspect ratio MgO fibres. It is shown, in scaling-up the process, that uniformity and quality of all the precursors, especially MgO fibres, plays an important role in achieving optimal superconducting properties. The in-situ made contacts show low resistivity and support current transients up to 10 times the critical current.
