Summary

BECAUSE OF THEIR SIMPLE ASSEMBLY, WITH FEW MOVING PARTS, SCREW COMPRESSORS ARE RELIABLE. BUT THIS APPLIES ONLY IF CARE IS TAKEN WITH OIL PROBLEMS ; OTHERWISE DAMAGE OCCURS WHICH OFTEN AFFECTS THE BEARINGS. BECAUSE SUCH A HIGH OIL VISCOSITY IS NEEDED, IT IS ABOVE ALL SYNTHETIC REFRIGERATING MACHINE OIL WHICH IS USED. IN PART ONE, THE FOLLOWING TOPICS ARE DISCUSSED: REFRIGERATING MACHINE OILS FOR SCREW COMPRESSORS, OIL-REFRIGERANT MIXTURES, LUBRICANTS FOR R134A SCREW-COMPRESSOR MACHINES, AND THE EFFECTS OF THE OIL-REFRIGERANT MIXTURE ON LUBRICATION. IN PART TWO, A PROCEDURE IS DESCRIBED FOR MEASURING BEARING CAPACITY WHICH CAN ALSO BE USED WITH OTHER TYPES OF COMPRESSORS, EG, OPEN SCROLL COMPRESSORS, WHICH ALSO HAVE A HIGH AXIAL CAPACITY. MEASURING IS RECOMMENDED, ESPECIALLY IN NEW MACHINES, IN ORDER TO DETECT POSSIBLE BEARING PROBLEMS EARLY. M. C.
