CALCULATIVE METHODS ARE PRESENTED FOR THE MINIMUM BACK-PRESSURE FORCED ON THE BACK OF AN ORBITING SCROLL AND FOR THE BACK-PRESSURE OBTAINED BY SMALL APERTURES COMMUNICATED TO THE COMPRESSION POCKETS IN THE SCROLL COMPRESSOR WITH SELF-ADJUSTING BACK-PRESSURE MECHANISM. THE MINIMUM BACK-PRESSURE IS INFLUENCED,NOT ONLY BY AXIAL GAS FORCE, BUT ALSO BY MOMENTS EXERTED ON THE ORBITING SCROLL. THE BACK-PRESSURE OBTAINED BY SMALL APERTURES IS A LINEAR FUNCTION OF SUCTION PRESSURE.
