Summary

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS FOR THE SUCCESSFUL OPERATION OF THE TURBOPUMPS IS THE ASPECT OF DYNAMIC SEALING OF CRYOGENIC PROPELLANTS. IN ADDITION TO FRICTION AT OR ABOVE ROOM TEMPERATURE, DYNAMIC SEALS FOR CRYOGENIC FLUIDS ALSO FACE FLASHING OF LIQUID TO GAS BETWEEN THE SEAL SURFACES WITH CONSEQUENT LARGE INCREASE IN LEAK RATES DEPENDING ON THE LOCAL BALANCE OF HEAT TRANSFER. STATE OF THE ART OF SUCH DYNAMIC SEALS IS PRESENTED IN THE PAPER.
