Summary

Describes a solar installation for an hotel in Benidorm, southern Spain. The system is supplied by 328 rooftop vacuum pipe solar collector modules, with a total absorber area of 345 m2. Given the absence of frost, the heat transfer fluid is water. In summer the collectors generate drive energy for an absorption refrigeration plant, in winter the solar energy is used to heat the rooms and in spring and autumn the solar installation generates hot water. Notes operating experience since May 1992. States the system covers around 30% of the total energy demand of the hotel. Gives advice for the design of trivalent solar installations and notes that solar air conditioning is also feasible in cooler climates with lower radiation intensities.
