SP Swedish National Testing and Research Institute perform research on supermarket refrigeration: energy efficient display cabinets and cooling-coils.

Summary
Supermarkets use a great deal of energy and the variations in needs are great. Therefore, there is a need for more research and at SP such research is carried out. For example, one project on display cabinets and one on cooling coils for indirect cooling are being conducted. The performance of the air curtain is of vital importance for the efficiency of the display cabinet, since much heat is gained through infiltration. When it comes to cooling-coils, the results show that the most energy efficient solution is not always to aim for a turbulent flow regime: the laminar flow regime can offer the most energy-efficient solution in many cases.
