Special cryostats for applications of high-Tc-SQUID measuring systems and other high-Tc applications.

Author(s) : SPÖRL G., BINNEBERG A.

Summary

The application of high-Tc SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) devices in non-destructive evaluation, geological exploration and medicine requires low noise cryogenic cooling systems which have to be as small as possible and non-metallic. The cryostats are made from glass-fiber reinforced epoxy materials. For thermal insulation special foils for reducing thermal noise are necessary. For small scale application three types of cryostats were developed, which are described. For large scale application simple bath cryostats can be designed for pressure-free working conditions. The staff of the Cryogenic Department of the ILK Dresden has developed several cryostats for different high-Tc applications upon request or for specific local projects.
