Summary

A STUDY OF THE STABILITY OF THE LIMIT CYCLE OF PARALLEL FLOW AND COUNTER FLOW HEAT EXCHANGERS PI-CONTROLLED BY FLOW RATE MANIPULATION. THE MULTI-SCALE PERTURBATION METHOD IS USED TO INVESTIGATE THE STABILITY OF THE LIMIT CYCLE OF A HIGHER ORDER POLYNOMIAL NONLINEAR SYSTEM. A CONDITION IS OBTAINED FOR THE LIMIT CYCLE TO BE STABLE OR UNSTABLE TO A SMALL DEVIATION OF FEEDBACK GAIN FROM THE STABILITY BOUNDARY. SEVERAL EXAMPLES ARE USED TO ILLUSTRATE FEATURES OF THE DYNAMICS OF HEAT EXCHANGERS.
