Summary
A RECENT WORKSHOP HELD IN WASHINGTON DC SHOWED THAT, AFTER THE FLURRY EXCITEMENT WHICH ACCOMPANIED RAPID DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTORS (HTSCS), A MORE REFLECTIVE REASSESSMENT OF THEIR CAPABILITIES AND MANY YEARS OF INTENSIVE RESEARCH WILL BE NEEDED TO BRING THE NEW MATERIALS INTO WIDESPREAD USES INELECTRIC UTILITY APPLICATIONS. THERE WAS A GENERAL AGREEMENT ON THE NEED FOR A COORDINATED APPROACH TO RESEARCH ON HTSCS. J. V.
