Summary

In studies of heat and mass transfer processes in laminar flow, when heat flux is determined by diffusion of the alien substance apart from heat conduction, use of the partial Reynolds analogy as well as the total analogy can result in significant errors (50%) in determining heat transfer coefficients. Calculations of temperature and concentration values will also differ from actual values when using the analogy (temperature differs by 3 deg C, concentration by 20%). However, during distinctions between Prandtl number and Schmidt number coefficients the heat and mass transfer coefficents are interconnected and their relation is close to unity.
