Summary
With progress in space infrared detection, superconductivity and quantum science, the performance requirements for refrigerators, providing the cryogenic environment below 10 K, are increasingly stringent, particularly in terms of high power density, efficiency, and low vibration. Stirling type pulse tube refrigerators
(SPTRs) gradually become popular due to no moving components at cold end. A three-stage SPTR is developed and tested in this paper. Active phase shifter is employed as the second stage phase shifter, and the third stage adopts cold inertance tube. Impedance characteristics are firstly numerically analyzed. The influence of the active phase shifter’s stroke and phase angle on system performance are then investigated numerically and experimentally. Experimental results showed that the minimum temperature could reach 5.29 K, and 52 mW cooling capacity at 8 K or 104 mW cooling capacity at 10 K is obtained.
