Summary

THE PAPER PRESENTS THE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF DESIGN OF THE MAGNET, PARTICULARLY THE CONDUCTOR, BUILDING PATTERNS AND STRUCTURAL ASSEMBLY. MOSTLY ENGINEERING ASPECTS ARE EXPOSED FURTHER CERTAIN THERMAL STABILITY CRITERIA, PROTECTION DURING DUMPING AND OTHER FEATURES ARE BRIEFLY TOUCHED UPON. THE REFRIGERATION SYSTEM, WHICH IS MAINLY A HELIUM LIQUEFIER, IS DESCRIBED IN DETAIL. THE VARIOUS CONFIGURATIONS ARE BRIEFLY OUTLINED. SINCE THE MAGNET COOL DOWN PROCESSES PASS FROM 300 TO 4.5 K OVER A PERIOD OF SEVERAL DAYS, RELIABILITY ASPECTSARE EXAMINED IN PARTICULAR. A TABLE DEPICTS MAGNET PARAMETERS FOR DIFFERENT MHD POWER GENERATION UNITS.
