THE EFFECT OF LOAD DIVERSITY ON HVAC COSTS.

Author(s) : MURRAY H. J.

Summary

OWNING AND OPERATING COSTS OF HVAC SYSTEMS ARE HIGHER THAN WOULD OTHERWISE BE EXPERIENCED WHEN DIVERSITY FACTORS ARE EXCLUDED FROM THE SYSTEM DESIGN AND SPECIFICATIONS. COSTS HIGHER THAN NECESSARY OCCUR WHEN EQUIPMENT IS PURCHASED WHICH IS OVERSIZED. OPERATIONAL COSTS ARE IN EXCESS OF THOSE WITH PROPERLY SIZED EQUIPMENT. THESE COSTS CAN BE MINIMIZED BY BALANCING AND TUNING ALL SYSTEM COMPONENTS. UNRECOVERABLE OPERATING COSTS OCCUR WHEN PEAK EFFICIENCY OF EQUIPMENT CANNOT BE REALIZED DUE TO USE AT OTHER THAN DESIGN CONDITIONS.
