Type of article: Article

Summary

INVESTIGATES THE EFFECT OF EXPOSED ROOFS ON THERMAL PERFORMANCE DURING THE HOT SEASON OF THE YEAR, BY COMPARING THE INDOOR CLIMATE OF 2 APARTMENTS, ONE ON THE TOP FLOOR, THE OTHER ON THE GROUND FLOOR OF THE SAME BUILDING. AMONG THE CONCLUSIONS NOTES THE CONSIDERABLE DIFFERENCE IN THE THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF THE APARTMENTS DUE TO THEIR VERTICAL LOCATION, THE INDOOR AIR TEMPERATURE AND INTERNAL SURFACE TEMPERATURES OF THETOP FLOOR APARTMENT BEING HIGHER OWING TO THE EXPOSURE TO DIRECT SOLAR RADIATION. ANALYSES SOME DESIGN ALTERNATIVES FOR ROOF CONSTRUCTION IN SAUDI ARABIA. COMPARES THEIR U-VALUES WITH THAT DEFINED BY THE GULF COOPERATION COUNCIL AND THE U-VALUE OF THE APARTMENT ROOFS IN THIS STUDY. (INT. BUILD. SERV. ABSTR., GB., 25, N 1, 1990/01-02, 90-00277.
