Summary

In individual air conditioning unit production, the total number of manufactures is increasing, refrigeration and air conditioning engineers are progressing. In centralized air conditioning, air conditioning engineers are ahead of the heating engineers and plumbers. Air conditioning is often part of a building. The refrigeration engineer generally does not demonsrate his capabilities. The opportunities for development exist, especially in France: the market, for systems up to 10 kilowatts, is about 150,000 units per year. In the centralized air conditioning market (10 to 150 kilowatts), which is related to the currently depressed building industry, chilled water systems are increasing and require all the skills of the refrigeration engineer. An investigation into air conditioning in Europe concluded that sales of individual air conditioning units will increase by 35% during the next five years, the continuation of split systems by 60%, and mobile systems by 35%, its continuation of air-cooled condensing units for water chilling plants, and screw and scroll compressors will increase whilst centrifugal and reciprocating compressors will remain stable.
