AN EXPERIMENTAL METHOD FOR DETERMINING HEAT-TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS OF A HEAT EXCHANGER IS THE SINGLE-BLOW TRANSIENT TEST. IN THIS A SINGLE FLUID IS USED AND INITIALLY FLUID AND MATRIX ARE AT THE SAME TEMPERATURE. A STEP-CHANGE IS THEN IMPOSED UPON THE FLUID INLET TEMPERATURE AND TIME-TEMPERATURE READINGS OF THE OUTLET FLUID ARE TAKEN. THESE ARE DIRECTLY INDICATIVE OF THE HEAT-EXCHANGE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HEAT-TRANSFER SURFACE. AN EXAMPLE IS GIVEN IN WHICH TWO NUMERICAL METHODS WERE USED TO CHECK THE RESULTS. D.W.H.
