THE PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW IS TO EXAMINE THE VARIOUS DESIGNS FOR OPERATING THEATRE VENTILATION SYSTEMS, AND TO COMPARE THEIR PERFORMANCES WITH RESPECT TO THE CONTROL OF AIRBORNE BACTERIAL CONTAMINATION OF THE WOUND. IN PARTICULAR THE DESIGN OF < ULTRA CLEAN AIR > VENTILATION SYSTEMS FOR ORTHOPAEDIC SURGICAL SUITES IS DISCUSSED.
