Summary
In this paper, the three-bed re-heat combined cycle of adsorption chiller is introduced. The chiller consists of three adsorbed/desorber heat exchanger, one evaporator and one condenser. Combined cycle refers to the adsorber/desorber of HEXs that are HEX1 and HEX2 operate in re-heat cycle while HEX3 operates conventional cycle respectively. Matlab with ode 45 solver is applied to simulate the performance of the chiller. The effect of heat source temperature and the effect of cycle time on the performance of the chiller are presented. COP and cooling capacity is going to be the performance indicator of the chiller. The objectives of the present study are to examine the performance of three-bed reheat combined chiller and to compare it with those of four-bed conventional chiller and four-bed re-heat chiller. As a result, the present chiller with the new strategy can utilize the minimum heat source temperature 55°C while the chilled water out temperature keep in 9°C to produce cooling effect. The performance (COP and cooling capacity) enhance with the heat source temperature. The proposed chiller provides higher COP values than that provided by the four-bed reheat chiller. Cycle times between 2000-3000s are offering the highest cooling capacity values in both of the three-bed re-heat combined chiller and the four-bed re-heat chiller.
