Summary
Based on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE), magnetic cooling has been considered in recent years as a serious alternative to replace conventional systems. In this paper, the authors present various aspects of magnetic cooling as well as their recently developed magnetic refrigerator. In order to better understand the physical origin of the MCE and magnetic cooling, the theoretical basis is described. Recent developments in magnetocaloric materials and magnetic field sources are also the subject of this paper. In the last part, the authors present the recently developed magnetocaloric machine at HES-SO in collaboration with Clean Cool System Company (CCS).
