Type of article: Article
Summary
8.5 T superconducting split coil for the purpose of testing large-scale superconductors for fusion devices was made and tested. The coil was wound with plane-shaped monolith type niobium-titanium conductor and it was graded with 3 regions. To minimize the training, the coil was prestressed on winding to avoid movement of the conductor during energization. During the first operation the coil was energized to the rated current without quenching.
